Like what you see? You can be a part of WWLT!
It takes a lot of people to produce a show.
We have four full productions each year as well as the FLASH short play festival. Casts range from two to 10+, crew two to 6, and with many more people in pre-production. This takes a lot of people. There is a place for you in our theatre.
Acting: All ages from 18, all sexes, all physical types. Many productions need bit-parts and non-speaking toles. Start your career with those.
Behind the scenes: The Men (and Women) in Black. Without them nothing happens. They are responsible for shifting scenery, moving furniture, managing the props (the bits and pieces the actors carry on stage), helping actors with quick changes, calling the actors to stage. This is where you learn how a production works.
Stage Managing: Interested in stage management? You can begin by working backstage, and working as an Assistant Stage Manager, ASM. Eventually, after a number of shows as ASM you can become the full SM. It’s the Stage Manager who runs the show, who makes sure everything and everything is in place, who says “Go” and “Stop”. During a run the SM is in total command. You thought it was the Director? No, the director is responsible for the overall design of the show, but the SM is the one who makes it happen.
Set Design and Construction: WWLT is known for its creative sets, they can range from a few boxes and screens on an empty stage, to a detailed interior or an Italian architectural fantasy.
Our sets are always impressive. They are a crucial part of the whole theatrical experience and we need volunteers to help with set construction and bump in,
No experience in building things? That’s okay we need painters – all sets need to be painted.
Not good with a hammer and nails, that not a problem. There is always somewhere your ability will be highly valued.
You are a craftsman, proud of your competence? Join us and do the nasty things you’d never dream of doing in real life. Discover all the sins that can be covered up with masking tape and a coat of black paint.
Lighting and Sound Operators: The technical aspects of a theatrical production are lights and sound. All need an operator in close collaboration with the stage manager, paying attention to the script and the action on stage.
Ours is a small theatre with good acoustics, so we don’t rely on microphones to hear the actors, but we rely on sound to using both music and sound effects.
Directing: We get directors from all over, but we also grow our own. Members can begin by directing short pieces for the FLASH Festival and go on to Assistant Director in a full production.
Directing is a lot of hard work. Don’t try it until you really, really, know what you are letting yourself in for. Planning for a full production begins long before opening night, it’s an immersive experience..
Costume design and production: We don’t normally make our own costumes, but we sometimes need a seamstress for costume adjustments or special items that we can’t hire or purchase.
Front of House: We need ushers to show patrons to their seats, we need people to serve alcohol, tea and coffee, get to watch most of the show, join cast and crew after the show for drinks and supper.
Get involved, come along, meet new people and share in the joy of creating something special.
