The following plays and directors have been selected for FLASH this year.

- Casting auditions are on Wednesday 26 July from 7:30 pm
at Peninsula Theatre, Cnr McMasters and Ocean Beach Road, Woy Woy. - Auditions are open group auditions with a set time allocated for each director.

Play Synopses and Roles
The Commuter by Trudi Slaven, director Sebastian Yule
Genre: Comedy / Mystery
On the long train journey to the afterlife, Prue is frustrated that every other passenger is allowed to disembark, while she’s still stuck in her carriage waiting for what comes next. And as a lifelong commuter, Prue hates trains - she really hates them. Train guard/guide to the underworld Charon is there to manage the various souls that come and go. But when it comes to Prue, Charon has other plans. He/she knows the secrets Prue keeps and the dark deeds she got up to in life. While the characters Sam and Barry get to move on to their ever after, Prue will discover she faces a very different fate - one that Charon will relish.
Characters:
Prue: Woman, 50s or 60s, expensively dressed, utterly self-absorbed, pretentious
Charon: Train guard/guide to the underworld, man or woman, any age but must be authoritative. He/she is gruff, businesslike and largely intolerant of people.
Sam: Man/woman, early 20s, dressed for a party, disoriented and confused.
Barry: Man, older 60+, wearing pyjamas, he knows he’s dead and he’s more philosophical.

Clear As Mud by Sally Bartley, director Nicky Prescott
Genre: Comedy/Farce/Absurd
Special Agent X has been given his secret mission, but is a bit iffy on the details. Will he get his message in time? Will he manage to liaise with his target? The answer is as clear as mud as four characters, any age, any gender, bungle their way through a very risky business.

Panic by Rupert Rae, director Kelli Ward
Genre: Drama in absurdist style
Three people who work together have just been thrown in the deep end. Some sort of catastrophe has happened to their leader who has disappeared (the details are never revealed).
They have ten minutes to come up with some sort of public statement or everything they have worked on for years will come crashing down.
But they have obviously been under the realm of a tyrant and they are not used to sticking their heads up.
Is this their chance to shine? What if he shows up? Can they do it?

On The List by Jenna Arnold, director Michael Sheather
Genre: Comedy
The Secretary of the Strata Committee of a very upmarket apartment block has become worried that one of the owners, a couple with one child, have not been seen for some considerable time.
The Strata Secretary is worried that something nefarious has happened to the lovely family and their dear little girl. Not wanting to involve the police in a missing persons case, she turns to the company that manages the building security.
Having made the complaint she discovers there is no turning back. The apartment will have to be opened, by force if necessary and searched in order to throw light on the mystery of the owners disappearance.
Characters:
Samantha any age but must look fit and speak beautifully
Antony from the private security firm. Well dressed. Can be any age.
Juno neighbour, any age, wealthy and upper class, bossy, sticky beak

The New Messiah of Woy Woy by Peter Rodgers, director Gordon Crawford
Genre: Comedy / farce
Inspired by his parent’s admiration for Spike Milligan, a young man
sets out to light the way forward for his generation and save the
world.

Shedding Light by Andrew Thomson, director Sasha Shapievsky
Genre: Comedy
Two couples meet for a nice dinner party. Things don’t seem to warm up much between the two men and just when dinner is served there is a power blackout.
Bedlam ensues with glasses breaking and hands on the wrong partners and truths being discovered about the crossed relationships. Not to mention the flying food.
When the lights come back on decorum returns. Kind of.
